The tragic death of Dr YSR notwithstanding, the opposition parties in the state saw an opportunity to hit the ruling party chances in a big way. Even as two TDP candidates were arrested for distribution of liquor and money, the yellow flags worked with renewed vigor to secure a win at all costs. It was not as much as the seat itself, but the fact that they wanted to tell the AICC in Delhi that the Congress in the state is a spent force minus YSR. It is learnt that Botsa Satyanarayana was the only minister who was concentrating on the election events, but even as a ruling party minister he could not get much support as the state machinery had literally ground to a halt. The TDP on its part is fairly confident of victory, but is not able to predict it with any certainty as the high voter turnout indicates a sympathy wave, which the party feels might favor the Congress.
