A serious introspection is called for on the mindsets of the policy makers in the field of education. Yesterday's episode in an intermediate college in Rajahmundry where over 30 girl students attempted a mass suicide mission is both shocking and shameful. The college principal, a doctor no less, allegedly threatened students that he would sell them off to red light areas in Mumbai if they were to disclose the sexual advances he made on them. Over the past few months this principal was acting like a sexual predator by threatening and cajoling young girls in his hostel into sexual submission. It is indeed surprising that there is no check or procedural measures in place to assess the mental makeup of people who run these institutions. In the Rajahmundry case, the Dr. in case became a principal only because he happened to be the husband of the correspondent.
