Tekkali result – TDP has a long road ahead

Posted by Shanker Monday, September 14, 2009

The immaturity that some of the TDP leaders are displaying after the party’s loss in Tekkali is simply amazing. One member, on live TV, explained it away by saying that Congress won on a sympathy vote. How naïve is that? In a 6-pronged fight where the winner is elected by a margin of 7000 odd votes, there surely is no sympathy factor. If the TDP wants to see the result of a true sympathy wave it should perhaps wait for an election in Pulivendula, that is, if it even dares to field a candidate in the first place. The AICC office bearers in Delhi must be quietly chuckling when they saw Nagam Janardhan Reddy asking Congress to resolve the CM issue. As far as the Congress is concerned, 2014 is fairly safe and secure. Like I had pointed out in an earlier article, all Delhi needs to do is provide funds for A.P to ensure continuity of Dr YSR’s schemes. The Congress can and will easily do that thereby leading to a scenario where YSR’s schemes become bigger than the man’s shortcomings. Chandrababu more than anybody else knows how difficult it is to fight against a martyr’s memories. Even today he is fighting a losing battle against the memories of NTR. To this dreaded list of immortals, the name of YSR too will be added. With two such formidable names (1 within the TDP and 1 in the Congress) Chandrababu it would seem has no time or energy left to fight real opponents on the ground. Against this backdrop, if I were a TDP ticket holder, I would shudder at the thought of Delhi unleashing a young Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to lead the campaign for CM in the 2014 elections.
