Centre delays approval of new "Gas" Connections to AP

Posted by Shanker Tuesday, September 22, 2009

The UPA Government seems to be slowly changing its attitude towards AP. Despite the fact that AP had contributed majorly in UPA's win during the recent general elections, the Centre has started ignoring the state demands. The latest issue is about the issue of new gas connections to consumers across the state. Earlier this year, Oil companies and both state & central governments had come to a agreement to supply 10 lakh new gas connections to AP. The erstwhile CM, Y.S Rajasekhar Reddy had chalked a plan to supply 40% of these gas connections to the beneficiaries of a new scheme-"Deepam". Suddenly YSR's death seems to have changed a lot of things. The Centre has asked the Oil companies to delay the supply of new gas connections. When asked about this latest development, the Oil companies vaguely replied that they cannot produce so many cylinders to approve the new gas connections. So far, less than 20 thousand new gas connections have been approved for the state out of the promised 10 lakh connections. Interestingly, Tamil Nadu which had launched a similar welfare scheme like "Deepam" has been the major beneficiary of new "Gas" connections.
