Yadav puts faith in laddus

Posted by Shanker Saturday, September 26, 2009

The director general of police, Mr S.S.P. Yadav, is making a desperate last-minute bid to save his post. The state government, which is displeased with his conduct, has reportedly decided to replace him with the senior IPS officer, Mr R.R. Girish Kumar.

Mr Yadav has been sharply criticised for his inept handling of the disappearance of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s helicopter. He spoiled his own case by making inopportune comments later. On Saturday, the DGP met the Rajya Sabha MP, Mr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, a close friend of the late YSR, and the home minister, Mrs Sabita Indra Reddy. He gave both of them the laddu prasadam of Lord Venkateswara.
Though Mr Yadav denied that he lobbied with Mr Ramachandra Rao and Mrs Reddy to retain his post, it is learnt that he told them that he had done nothing wrong. “Yadav has been telling officers close to him that he is going to stay,” said a senior police officer.
Sources said that despite Mr Yadav’s moves, the transfer orders of top cops are likely to be issued in a week. Ministers loyal to YSR were angered by the DGP’s reported remarks making light of the chopper crash and his comment that police was not responsible for the CM once he was airborne.
Meanwhile, Mr Girish Kumar, who was promoted to the rank of DGP and awaiting a posting, met the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, and thanked him.
