Old wounds re-emerge in the Congress

Posted by Shanker Saturday, September 26, 2009

In an attempt to find an alternate power center to Y S Jagan, Delhi is making one controversial decision after another. While the late Dr YSR weeded out whining oldies and formed a tight knit group of matured young men, women and youth to take on a multi-pronged opposition, an ill-advised Delhi is undoing all the good work by reawakening old, comatose leaders who clearly have outlived their sell-by date. GV, NJR, Hanumantha Rao and their likes are clearly a step-behind in understanding the rhythm and beat of today’s politics. They were, even in their prime, really not leaders. Instead, they were gate keepers who were entrusted the keys to the seat of power by the mandarins in Delhi. It was this point that NTR made ever so tellingly, with the word "aatmagauravam", as he stormed to power in 1982. To expect these old leaders to deliver on any meaningful level is bound to cause disappointment. By stirring up a sour brew the likes of Keshav Rao are weakening the ruling party and giving strength to the opposition. It is better that Delhi pulls the plug from Keshav Rao and DS before they short-circuit the tremendous progress the Congress has made in the state in the last 7 years, by re-opening old wounds of dissent and groupism.
