Childhood friends Janaki (Mamta Mohandas) and Rummy (Nagarjuna) distance themselves after the former says that she'd marry him only if he mends his wayward ways and makes money to lead a decent life. Rummy becomes a trickster and fools smugglers and wrongdoers and builds wealth, he meets Sandhya and her son and offers them a shelter. Sandhya is Janaki, who comes in search of him after losing her husband. The story is about Rummy's encounter with smugglers, and unraveling of Sandhya's past.

Director Kiran fails first in showing the hero as a smart character who outwits his opponents. The way he builds the story is uninteresting, and you keep wondering why the villain exclaims or why ACP Shekar (Sayaji Shinde) behaves as if he's been hoodwinked and one ends up missing the gregarious character that Nagarjuna played in Hello Brother. Harshavardhan is a poor choice as the hero's friend. The power in the camera work and music is missing and only the songs shot in Greece is good.

There is something absolutely slow about the film from start to the finish. It drags and the music by Sandeep Chowta is in tandem with the story. The gloom pervades throughout.

Kiran repeats the romance of a married woman from Santosham but the audience is not fulfilled, Mamta looks sad throughout the film though Nagarjuna keeps asking her to smile. Her work is uninteresting and forced though she looks lovely in sarees. Nil chemistry amidst the couple and you don't know what to expect from Brahmanandam, he is daft and presence unnecessary.

With Nagarjuna nevertheless trying to hold his own, the clunky script with a flashback, a tete a tete with Sayaji Shinde recollecting his past and a terrorist angle to the drama makes it far from being new.

Mehek sparkles in an item song which is a remix of ANR's Muddante Chedha. Anushka just bats her eyelashes and shakes her neck in another song. The art work is really good but the characters around seem to be overwhelmed with the production 'values' unfolding around them.

Kedi disappoints, not a perfect film and looks far from being new. Choreography is bad, the editing could have been judicious, the end drags and the scene between Rummy and Sandhya looked artificial, with both the actors breathing no life when they realize they were childhood friends. An experienced director would have made some difference to the narration. An indistinct debut but better luck next time. As far as the senior actors are concerned, must say they should be considerate and wise in choosing sane stories.
